Walter smiled, stepped back, and made a sweeping gesture toward the wooden ramp leading up to the stage. “Go on now. Don’t keep her waiting.”
I took my daughter’s arm, linking it firmly in mine. Side by side, with the entire community cheering at the top of their lungs, we walked together toward the stage.
