“My legal team purchased the commercial debt notes legally through a corporate entity,” Nolan replied coldly. “The debt has been consolidated, and my firm is now her sole creditor. No thugs will come to her door. But I will enforce full civil wage garnishment against her for every single dollar. I am taking away the threat to her life, but I am not gifting her six hundred thousand dollars after what you both did.”
The last flicker of hope drained from Maribel’s face. “You’re destroying us.”
“No,” Nolan said. “I am simply forcing you to live with the consequences of your own choices.”
Maribel signed the papers with a shaking hand. Tessa, facing the terrifying prospect of criminal prison time and civil bankruptcy, signed her portion the following morning.
One week later, Maribel and Tessa were required to clear their remaining personal items out of the Bellhaven estate under police supervision.
