Let me start by saying this: Iโve always prided myself on being a man of control. You know, discipline and all that. The kind of man who looks at temptation and says, “Not today, Satan.”
But my people, what happened that day was beyond human control.
After seeing the picture Inemesit sent me โ as she posed in bed like a pro pole dancer, dressed in nightwear with too much skin in full glare โ I never remained the same again.
That image entered my head and built a mansion there. Complete with a swimming pool.
The words attached to the picture โ “Oga, u no go answer me? I dey wait. U sabi where to find me” โ were still replaying like they were living rent-free in my head as I tip-toed down the stairs like a thief in my own house!
Just imagine that feeling you had the first time you visited a girl or boy and you knew you would likely do the “do” โ yeah, that was the feeling. The mixture of excitement and fear. The knowledge that you were about to cross a line, and the delicious terror of not knowing what waited on the other side.
My heart was beating so loud you could hear it just by standing close to me. It was as if someone was pounding akpu in a mortar right inside my chest โ bam, bam, bam โ a rhythm that refused to slow down.
Emmanuel, you can still turn back, my conscience whispered.
Shut up, I whispered back.
And I kept moving.
As I reached the sitting room, I saw that, as always, everywhere was sparkling clean.
I give it to Inemesit. If there is one thing she is very good at, it would be keeping the house clean. Not a single speck of dust on the glass center table. The cushions were perfectly arranged โ not one pillow out of place. The floor gleamed like it had just been waxed by angels. And the air carried a faint scent of lavender, my wife’s favorite air freshener.
