Not enough to forgive him.
Not enough to trust him.
But enough to make me wonder whether I understood what he had actually been doing.
Daniel continued.
“There’s something else.”
Of course there was.
“What?”
“The Wells Family Property Trust.”
My stomach tightened again.
“What about it?”
“It doesn’t only hold an interest in your house.”
“What else?”
“The Lakewood building.”
I closed my eyes.
“So Carol owns that too?”
“Controls, not necessarily owns.”
“What’s the difference?”
“The beneficiaries matter.”
“Who are they?”
“I haven’t confirmed the full list.”
“Daniel.”
“I’m working through the filings.”
“Who have you confirmed?”
There was a pause.
“Your children.”
I sat down slowly.
“Lily and Noah?”
“Yes.”
That made even less sense.
“Why?”
“I don’t know.”
My thoughts spun.
Ethan had secretly transferred part of our house into a trust controlled by his mother.
But the trust benefited our children.
He had moved money into an account belonging to my mother.
But perhaps those payments were connected to a loan from my father.
