It arrived quietly—with identification cards, evidence bags, and a prepared list of devices to be seized.
PART 3: THE TRUTH COMES OUT
Adrian turned toward me.
“Vivienne, listen to me. Owen is my son. He needs me.”
“Then you should have thought about him before committing financial crimes.”
Celeste began crying.
“What will happen to my house?”
“Our house,” I corrected. “Vantage money paid for it. The court will decide what can be recovered.”
Outside the glass wall, Owen stood beside his nanny, frightened and confused.
I felt no satisfaction looking at him.
He was innocent—another person Adrian had used to support the life he wanted.
I asked Marissa to make sure child-welfare staff contacted Celeste’s sister rather than placing Owen with strangers if Celeste was taken in for questioning.
Adrian overheard me.
“Why would you help them?”
“Because I’m not you.”
That was his final defeat.
He had betrayed and humiliated me, but he had failed to turn me into someone cruel.
Within forty-eight hours, Vantage Aeronautics terminated Adrian for cause.
The court froze the assets connected to the disputed transfers. Our prenuptial agreement barred him from claiming my inherited shares, and its misconduct provision allowed me to recover legal expenses arising from fraud against marital property.
Celeste accepted a cooperation agreement and testified that Adrian had designed the scheme.
She was not innocent. She knew I existed and helped conceal the transfers.
But she had not known the company belonged to me, or that Adrian’s apparent wealth rested almost entirely on authority he did not own.
She lost the townhouse, the jewelry, and the fantasy that Adrian was a powerful man building a future for her.
At trial, the prosecutor played the airport recording.
The jury heard Adrian call me obedient. They listened as he planned to steal my shares, ruin my credit, move the money offshore, and leave me buried in debt.
The forged signature appeared enlarged on a courtroom screen.
