The room fell silent.
“Everyone,” Steven said into the microphone, “I need your attention.”
People turned toward him.
Rosie stood near the dance floor, looking confused.
Steven held up the flash drive.
“I was supposed to give a different speech tonight.”
He plugged the drive into the computer.
The giant screen behind him came to life.
The first image appeared.
Rosie crying in a bathroom stall.
A gasp spread through the room.
“Steven,” I whispered.
The second image appeared.
Rosie clutching her damaged jacket.
Then another.
And another.
Each photograph documented years of bullying.
Years of cruelty.
Years of humiliation.
I looked closer.
And suddenly I noticed something.
The girls responsible were clearly visible in nearly every image.
Madison.
Brooke.
Caitlin.
The same girls who had made Rosie’s life miserable.
The same girls who laughed whenever teachers weren’t watching.
Steven pointed toward the screen.
“Everybody sees Rosie.”
His voice echoed through the gym.
