“You would have ignored it,” she added.
I let out a breath.
“…Also yes.”
A small, broken laugh escaped Daniela.
The tension shifted.
Not gone.
But changed.
“I’m sorry,” Emiliano said suddenly, pulling back.
“You don’t have anything to be sorry for,” I said immediately.
“I thought Mom was…” he trailed off.
I cupped his face gently.
“You protected me,” I said. “That’s what matters.”
